The theatre studio Disk of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague is presenting Henrik Ibsen's play Peer Gynt. The first night is taking place on 16 april at 19:30.

Henrik Ibsen´s Peer Gynt is the first graduation project of the 3rd year students of acting and 4th year students of directing and dramaturgy (Theatre faculty of Academy of Performing Arts in Prague). Other members of the creative team are students of other departments of the Theatre faculty as well (such as production or set design).

The graduation project comprehends a full professional and first official public theatre production that should present and represent the students and their work to the audience and potential employers. Under supervision of their professors, theatre professionals students focuse not only on accomplishing the formal perfection of the production but mainly on presenting ideas and meaning of text.

The creative team (presented below) decided to stage Henrik Ibsen´s Peer Gynt. We really like and appreciate qualities of the text (using quite new and respected translation by J. Vohryzek and J. Brukner) and its dramatic potential. We can see that after more than a century Ibsen´s ideas are still very actual and the play talks to contemporary audience.

The production of Peer Gynt is based on thirteen actors. All the characters are distributed among them persuing a certain continuity and repetition key; this excludes characters of Peer Gynt, Åse, Solvejg and Buttonmoulder that should appear as unique entities in the Peer Gynt´s world.

Simple but original and creative set and costume design should accentuate director´s idea of creating theatre based on action, movement and rhythm. Original music composed by Jan Dřízal for two live pianos and various rhytmical instruments created by actors themselves on the scene follows minimalistic way of the production.
