EEA and Norway Financial Mechanisms
The EEA and Norway Financial Mechanisms are contributions from Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway to reducing economic and social disparities in the European Economic Area (EEA) and strengthening bilateral relations with the 15 beneficiary states.
In the funding period 2004-2009, the Czech Republic received € 104.58 million for various projects targeted mainly at preserving cultural heritage, supporting health and childcare and developing of human resources.
In the funding period 2009-14, the Czech Republic has been allocated €131.8 million. Environment, health, research and children are among the main priority areas. Significant funding has been dedicated also to the support to civil society, development of the justice and home affairs sector, promoting gender equality and conservation of the cultural and natural heritage.
The agreement on the use of the new EEA and Norway Grants in the Czech Republic was signed on 16 June 2011 in Prague. At the present time the programmes for the respective priority areas are being prepared. The first open calls are expected to be launched in the first half of 2012 at earliest.

Phase II of Church of the Saviour Reconstruction
This project was supported within the EEA and Norway Financial Mechanisms 2004 – 2009 with € 614 188. The applicant was the Evangelical Church of the Czech Brethren in Prague 1. The project included reconstruction of the baroque case and refurbishment of the organ to its historic origin, reconstruction of the flooring, staircases, stonework and church pews, as well as renovation of the Church of Saviour terraces, including removal of existing structures and rebuilding the structure with proper insulation and drainage. The project has contributed to the conservation of European cultural heritage in the Czech Republic.
