A literary-musical performance based on the correspondence between Berta Suttner-Kinski, the first female recipient of the Nobel Peace Prize, and the Norwegian writer Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson, will be presented at the theatre Mana in Prague on 1 December from 19:00.
A scenic reading of “The Art of Loving Life” under the direction of Olga Struskova will be followed by a sequence of the film about Berta Suttner-Kinski, Alfred Nobel and Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson. The film will help the audience to see the historical consequences of the mutual relationship between the three as well as the importance of their life stories. The film is made by Olga Struskova in 2009 in cooperation with students from the Pripotocni Gymnasium in Prague 10 under the supervision of Ladislav Reznicek. The composer of the music used both in the film as well as in the reading, is Jaromir Vogel.
The author of the literary text “The Art of Loving Life” is Ladislav Reznicek, a historian and writer of Czech origin. Through “The Art of Loving Life” Reznicek shows the audience not only how strong the friendship between Berta Suttner-Kinski and Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson was, but also their ideas and attitudes towards social life and the international pacifistic movement. The letter exchange between the two well-known personalities is an important source of inspiration for the text.
The event has the purpose to show both adults and secondary school students the importance of personalities such as Bjørnstjerne Bjørnson and Berta Suttner-Kinski, for the pacifistic movement and its meaning today. In addition to the evening performance which is mainly for adults there will also be two or three performances for students. These performances will be done in cooperation with students from the Pripotocni Gymnasium, who will be able to show the knowledge they have gained through the collaboration.
