The Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival is a celebration of creative documentary film and the greatest event of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe.
This years festival program is based on four competitions: Opus Bonum awarding world documentaries of innovative themes and film language, Between the Seas presenting remarkable films from the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, Czech Joy surveying the newest Czech filmmaking, and Fascinations focusing on a distinctive form of documentary film; experimental documentary. Further program sections introduce the current events at the Czech as well as international documentary scene. Translucent Beings are the retrospective profiles of remarkable filmmakers.
Two Norwegian films are represented at this year’s festival. The documentary film Tears of Gaza (2010) from the director Vibeke Løkkeberg takes part in the section concentrating on films about the Israel-Palestine conflict. Løkkeberg is known in Norway both as a director and a writer, and Tears of Gaza is her second documentary.
The film Gunnar Goes God (2010) from the director Gunnar Hall Jensen is chosen as one of five films represented in the Doc Alliance selection. This section is collaboration with the festival’s four partners, where each partner selects one film which then tours the five Festivals. At the end of the year an international jury decides about the “Doc Alliance Award” and the Award is handed over during selected festival. The five national markets support the films at their markets, festivals and furthermore in their theatrical, TV and DVD distribution. Director Gunnar Hall Jensen will also visit the Jihlava International Documentary Film Festival and participate at a discussion about his film.
